2012 Reserve Chardonnay

Wine Description

Our first Reserve Chardonnay, created from two acres of Dijon clone vines on the estate.

Fermented in two new French oak barrels and eight neutral oak barrels. The wines were left on the lees and stirred weekly for four before settling for a further four months, and bottled in September.

The outcome is classic cool climate Oregon Chardonnay, softened by the oak but remaining clear with hints of mineral and flint. Smooth and elegant with great texture and medium body. Aromas of honeysuckle and Meyer lemons with a palate of mellow pears and honeycomb.

Suggested pairings: Lobster, scallops, fresh crab, corn chowder, mushroom risotto.

90 points: PinotFile Light golden yellow with a faint apricot hue in the glass. Likable nose with fresh aromas of tropical fruits, grapefruit, vanilla and roasted nuts. Bright, clean and refreshing with flavors of lemon and pear with oak in the background. Soft in the mouth and easy to like with some finishing lemon-driven persistence.

* * * * Restaurant Wine Ronn Weigand MW, MS A complex, elegant Chardonnay of fine quality. It is medium full bodied, supple in texture, and finely flavored (baked pear, honey, almond, roasted nut), with a crisp, medium long finish.

Excellent (90) Enobytes Wine Online, Pamela Heiligenthal As a fan of Anam Cara wines, I look forward to tasting their lineup every year. This is their first Reserve Chardonnay, created from two acres of Dijon clone vines on the estate. The 2012 Anam Cara Chardonnay Reserve has pretty aromas of pear and orange; on first sip, it is clean and crisp with flavors of lemon, and pear. What makes it so interesting is its unique mid-palette, which plays a soft crescendo of light oak that leads to a medium-long finish of soft honeycomb and apricot flavors. Accompany this with lobster ravioli or tuna steaks for a perfect food match.

90 Points: The Terroirist Blog Review:  Medium yellow color. On the nose, I get sea salt, lime, some grapefruit and green melon, bright dandelion and honeysuckle. Creamy palate, medium acid, I like the mix of white peach, apricot and lemon-lime fruit. A good amount of limestone and oyster shells. Bright and fresh but richly textured with balanced notes of toasted almonds and honeycomb. Minerals and sea shells linger on the long finish. Impressive in its freshness and depth.
