The 2012 Pinot Noirs from Nicholas Estate Vineyard benefitted from a storybook warm, dry summer and full ripeness at harvest which was most welcome after the challenges of 2010 and 2011. They show the vineyard’s signature dusty elegance, acids to support structure and retain a lovely purple/ruby hue.

93 points Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar “Heady, exotically perfumed bouquet evokes candied dark berries, cherry-cola, star anise and potpourri, with a subtle touch of smokiness in the background. Sweet, palate-coating black raspberry and cherry compote flavors are sharpened by juicy acidity and a spicy element. Packs a serious punch but comes off as energetic and lithe, finishing with outstanding clarity, velvety tannins and lingering sweetness.”
94 points PinotFile“The nose invigorates with effusive aromas of fresh cherries, spice and dark red rose petals. Bright and elegant on the palate, with a pleasing core of cherry fruit accented with hints of brown spice and white chocolate. The suave tannins are nicely integrated, the texture is silky, and the finish is clean and refreshing.”
91 points Wine Spectator “Lithe, expressive and distinctive, with clove and cinnamon overtones around a core of fresh raspberry and cranberry flavors, lingering against fine tannins.”
